In this part of the world, the legal profession is synonymous with “wig and gown” or black and white, and till date, the majority of Nigerian lawyers think of legal practice as divided solely into litigation and commercial practice. However, the reality is that wherever there is a transaction or even human interaction, there is an opportunity for a lawyer to provide a service - from boardrooms, to hospitals, to movie theaters and even family meetings.

The course, Shades of White and Black exposes lawyers and aspiring lawyers to over 20 various practice areas beyond the infamous litigation and “commercial”.

In Legally Engaged’s usual practical and direct style, the course explores the workings of the practice areas from the point of view of a practicing lawyer as opposed to from a simply theoretical perspective. The sessions are facilitated by lawyers practicing at the best law firms in Nigeria.

In this 10-hour course, you will be exposed to -

  1. Nigerian law firms - how they operate and how they are structured.
  2. An overview of 20 practice areas.
  3. The typical matters/projects you can expect to handle in the various practice areas.
  4. The relevant players involved in those matters/projects.
  5. The objectives that clients expect a lawyer in those practice areas to achieve.
  6. The types of things a young lawyer can expect to do on a daily basis while working in those practice areas.
  7. The differences and similarities among various practice areas.
  8. Useful information to break into any of those practice areas.
  9. The pros and cons of working in those practice areas.

This course is a must-have as it helps students and lawyers increase their awareness of the legal profession. The course is ideal for

  1. All Law students
  2. All young lawyers
  3. Lawyers who want exposure to other practice areas to make them more well-rounded practitioners
  4. Everyone considering a career in Law or curious about the legal profession
